About the Product Board

The Product Board for Margarine, Fats and Oils (MVO) represents the common interests of all links in the production chain of oils and fats.

Oils and fats are an important source of energy. Not just for the body but also for the economy. The MVO, as the platform for the producers, importers, processors and customers in the chain and for consultation with government and social organisations, makes considerable efforts to put forward the case for a sustainable use of this source of energy. The emphasis lies on sustainability, nutrition and health and quality and safety. The product board MVO functions as knowledge centre, that signals developments in society, science and the market, and as such supports business operations in the sector.

Where developments go beyond the interests of the separate links in the chain the MVO takes the initiative for a common approach. This can be in the form of representative activities towards the government, the initiation of collective research, the setting up of linked projects or the initiation of special activities to provide information.

MVO has for instance set up a Task Force in the field of Nutrition and Health, the Task Force for the Improvement of the Fatty acid composition, which has the objective to improve the fatty acid composition of food products in the Netherlands. The MVO sees this as an example of conducting business in a socially responsible manner.
